Bristow Announces Retirement
20 Mar 2009
Following a long spell of injuries Jason Bristow has announced that he has been forced to end his career early.

Jason made a statement on the official site earlier saying

"Regretfully I would like to inform the supporters of Basingstoke Town FC that following recent medical advice I have been forced to bring my playing career to an abrupt end. It has been a shock to me and I am devastated to accept the fact that I will never be able to pull on the Basingstoke shirt again and give 100% to my home town team. The club has been a major part of my life for 10 years, it feels like my second home and the thought of not being a part of the club’s strive for success is unimaginable at this moment in time.

Unfortunately the investigations relating to the recent injury to my right knee revealed that over the years playing so many games and rushing back from injuries has taken its toll on all the joint surfaces causing traumatic arthritis. There is very little cartilage left and this means my right knee joint is bone rubbing on bone. My surgeon has advised me that playing on is no longer an option.

Although I cannot play an active part this season I will be here to help and support the team in any way I can in our fight to avoid relegation.

May I take this opportunity to thank each and everyone of you for your support over the years and I hope this season is not the last you will see of me at Basingstoke FC. Jason"

Jason has been the heart and soul of BTFC for the last 10 years and all of the Terrace Blues team is absolutley gutted for him, we just hope we can find a role for him at Basingstoke as he would be a massive loss if he had to move on.
