Jason joined Basingstoke from Reading in 1999 where he was captain of the reserve side.
He made his debut in a 3-1 league cup win against Walton & Hersham and went on to make over 350 appearances for the club, a figure which would have been higher but for a knee injury which kept Jase out for all of the 2002/03 season and eventually forced him into early retirement in March 2009 at the age of just 28.
The big defender won the Fans Player Of The Season award on three seperate occasions (2001/02, 2003/04 and 2005/06) as well as the Away Fans Player Of The Season for the 2007/08 season.
Jason was known as Mr. Basingstoke due to the commitment he showed to the club on and off the pitch time and time again. As well as playing for the side, he has also been Football In The Community officer since 2006, a position which he still holds today. He works full time from The Camrose.
Upon his retirement, Jason was asked about moving into management by the Basingstoke Gazette. He said, 'I have got my coaching badges and that is something I would like to go into'. He went on, 'I need to get my foot in the door, whether that be here or elsewhere but if I had to go away, my goal would be to come back here (to BTFC) and manage'.
The club also plans to hold a testimonial for Jason in the summer to celebrate his ten years with Basingstoke so far. |
