Match report | Preview Whiddett Battles for the ball Pictures from the match Town lost their 1st match of the season as Weston's physique in the midfield and defence out powered us. 1st half The 1st period was pretty even with stoke playing some good football at times, but as the half went on Weston got more and more into the game and by the end of the half we were thankful it was 0-0, mainly down to Scott Tarr, producing at least 2 superb saves. Town had 1 worthwhile shot at goal which flew wide of the far post from a 20 yard drive by David Ray. 2nd Half Weston started of the second half how they ended the first with some great pass and movement in the midfield and up front. Weston took the lead on 49 minutes through a good move which was finished off by French and as Town looked for a way back into the match it was more a less wrapped up on 52 minutes by McGregor as Torres challenge rebounded awfully for Stoke as Tarr came out to try and clear the danger the striker rounded Tarr and slotted into an empty net. Weston were in complete control of the match and only some poor finishing meant Stoke still had a very slight chance to get a point. Weston made a few substitutions which disrupted the flow of Westons play and Stoke made a key sub of their own bringing on Westall for Tanfield and that gave us a touch more creativity going forward and Stoke were handed a lifeline on 86 minutes after Stoke's persistence paid off and Whiddett was left unmarked beat the offside trap and slotted home from 7 yards with a nice finish beating the keeper to his right. Town pushed for the equalizer and almost grabbed it as Stamp got forward down the left and played the ball into an unmarked Torres who had time to make room for a shot which was goal bound to the bottom left until the defender got a crucial deflection which sent it into the side netting. Summary Stoke battled well, but against players of Westons physique you need something special, which Torres has but at times it seems like it's 1 man doing all the work. Stoke Battled back well and were unlucky not to get a point which wouldn't have been deserved but throughout the season we will win when we didn't deserve to and lose when we were the better team, its just a matter of getting the points in the bag.
