Stoke made it 3 wins out of 3 as Sutton Utd became the latest casualty as Stoke grabbed a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal just before half time from Martin Whiddett.
1st Half
Stoke started where they left off against Hayes with some great play and Tanfield especially creating a lot with his balls into the box.
Stoke 1st chance was when Sergio burst into the box went past a defender, but was a bit to greedy and was looking to score himself with Roach in the box unmarked but Sergio shot himself and had to settle for a corner.
David Ray should have opened the scoring soon after as the ball was played to him but his shot from the edge of the box was fired just over the bar.
Just before half time Stoke took the lead following a cross by Tanfield and the initial header was saved by the keeper, but the keeper spilled the saved and Whiddett reacted well to poke the ball home from 3 yards
2nd Half
Town should have wrapped the game up minutes into the 2nd half after good play down the left by Tanfield and Stamp ended up with Tanfield producing a good cross which evaded all the defenders and keeper and landed perfect from David Ray who headed the ball back across goal it looked to be sailing into the right hand corner, but the post somehow got in the ball and the ball agonizingly came back out into play and was cleared by the Sutton defence.
Stoke had many chances to make the game secure but poor choices in key positions meant we didn't have a key worthwhile shot that made the keeper produce a save.
Sutton were a threat while there was only 1 goal in it, and Stoke did have a few scrapes as Sutton went in search for an equalizer.
Summary
Stoke could and should have made the points secure earlier by making their possession and final ball count, but 3 points is 3 points.
