Basingstoke Town continued their pre-season with a 3-1 victory over Wessex League side ASSC Hamble. After a host of chances throughout the first quarter of an hour, Basingstoke took the lead on 14 minutes after a good run by right midfielder Sam Tucknott and his shot come cross found it's way to Phil Ruggles who slotted home his first goal for the 'Stoke.
The home side replied shortly after with a quick pass and move, which found Hamble's Woodgate free on the edge of the box where he unleashed a curling shot into the corner which beat Chris Waller in the Basingstoke goal. Just before the first 45 minutes were up, Faulkner pounced on a Ruggles square ball and calmy struck across goal to put Basingstoke back into the lead.
Before the referee could blow for half time, another stroke of pace by Tucknott gave him an extra yard free to put in a superb ball across the face of the goal which was unfortunately turned in at the near post by a Hamble player.
At the break, Frank Gray changed the entire 'Stoke outfield side, giving several youngsters a chance to show what they can do. Hamble stood firm and limited Basingstoke to a few decent chances, without ever really troubling the Town defence themselves. Final score, Hamble 1 - 3 Basingstoke Town.
